Project Description

Funded by the Victorian Government and in partnership with Monash Health and Plenary Group, construction of the Casey Hospital Expansion Project commenced in 2017.

The Casey expansion will deliver 160 new beds, the hospital’s first intensive care unit, six new operating theatres, a new day surgery unit, and will include an upgraded pharmacy, pathology, back-of-house areas and expanded parking facilities.

Design3 were contracted by façade specialist construction company Eire Group (Victoria) to complete the Façade Engineering, and associated documentation, for the expanded hospital’s new flagship building, the ‘Education Hub building’.  The complex and multifaceted cantilevered design by Silver Thomas Hanley (STH) Architects, consisted of multiple large scale cold form steel fin frames, projecting from each building face, to form the angular framework for the dramatic Cemintel cladding façade to be fixed to.  With a large proportion of the cold form frame and cladding, being cantilevered out into ‘fresh air’ above ground floor, the successful engineering, and subsequent construction, of this challenging design was a credit to the Desig3 Engineering team.
